Kebbi govt commissions tree nursery in FUBK

The Kebbi State Government has commissioned a Tree Nursery Project at the Federal University Birnin-Kebbi, FUBK.
The ceremony which took place weekend at the University permanent site with aimed to complement the government effort in tackling the land enchrochment and farmers and fulani heldmen.
In a statement signed by the Public Relations officer of the institution, Jamilu Magaji said that the project which was commissioned by the Kebbi State Governor Atiku Abubakar Bagudu was represented by Honourable Commissioner for Environment and Solid Minerals, Alh. Musa Hassan Kalgo, commended the effort of the University management for the establishment
“This is part of the University’s commitment to nurse a number of plants and sustain over 12,000 trees planted in the institution in 2018” he quoted.
The Commissioner who also observed that University environment was not what it was prior to the flag-off of the tree planting in June, 2018.
He said the Ministry would work hand in hand with the institution towards sustaining the seedlings for the overall benefit of the University and the public.
“The Commissioner further applauded the sustained effort of the Management of the University for keeping the momentum, adding that the Ministry would provide additional seedlings such as mangoes, mahogany and other medicinal plants so as to complement the effort of the institution.”
“He stressed the need for other institutions to emulate the gesture by initiating activities and this and many other projects that would better the lives of their host communities.”
Earlier in his Address, Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. B.B. Shehu, highlighted that the Nursery project was established by the University with a view to nurse and propagate a variety of trees for the institution. He said the exercise also marked the closing ceremony for the 12,000 trees planted in the University two months ago.
“The Vice Chancellor noted that the University embarked on the tree planting exercise in order to contribute to the control of global warming and desertification.”
“He maintained that the objective was also to stimulate individuals and other institutions to venture into same so as to make the environment more conducive.”
He appreciated the efforts of the Ministry for partnering with the University and providing professional inputs that yielded tremendous success.
In a vote of thanks, Registrar of the University, Ibrahim A. Mungadi, thanked the Ministry on behalf of the University. He appreciated members of the University community for making generous donations of trees to the institution
