Kebbi Govt Holds Mass Wedding For 300 Couples
Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Nasir Idris, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to sustaining the annual free mass wedding programme throughout his tenure.
The Governor gave the assurance on Monday, 27 July 2026, during this year’s mass wedding ceremony for 300 couples, held at Haliru Abdu Stadium, Birnin Kebbi.
Governor Idris said the initiative would continue to provide support to less-privileged families across the state.
He commended his wife, Hajiya Nafisa Nasir Idris, for championing the programme through her foundation.
“I will continue to put more effort into this initiative to ensure that more less-privileged people benefit from it,” the Governor said.
He also urged the people of Kebbi State to continue supporting the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, noting that the President’s policies and programmes have brought significant developmental benefits to the state.
“I am one of the happiest people today because this large turnout shows that the people of Kebbi State support Mr. President. We remain committed to the APC,” he added.
Speaking at the event, the Wife of the Governor, Hajiya Nafisa Nasir Idris, said her foundation initiated the mass wedding programme to assist the needy and reduce the financial burden on families. She assured residents that the programme would be sustained and appreciated all individuals and organisations that contributed to its success.
She advised the newly married couples to fear Allah, uphold Islamic values, and build their homes on mutual respect, patience, and understanding.
Also speaking, Dr. Mujidat Folashade Tinubu-Ojo, daughter of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Iyaloja-General of Nigeria, commended Governor Nasir Idris and his wife for the initiative, describing it as a commendable effort that supports less-privileged members of society.
She congratulated the couples and urged them to adhere to the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) in their marital lives.
The marriage solemnisation was conducted according to Islamic rites by Sheikh Imam Mukhtar alongside other Islamic scholars. Governor Nasir Idris paid a dowry of ₦200,000 for each bride, after which prayers were offered for Allah’s blessings upon the newlyweds.
Prominent Islamic scholars, including Sheikh Professor Mansur Ibrahim Sokoto, Sheikh Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa, Sheikh Abdulrahman Isah Jega, Sheikh Abdulrashid Makarfi and Sheikh Usman Zagga, delivered sermons highlighting the importance and virtues of marriage in Islam.
The mass weeding ceremony attracted prominent personalities across the country including the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Sen Abubakar Atiku Bagudu; the Minister of State Education, Prof Suwaiba Sa’id; the wife of Katsina State Governor, Hajiya Fatima Dikko Umar Radda; the wife Jigawa state Governor, Hajiya Amina Umar Namadi; Senator Muhammad Adamu Aleru and Royal Highnesses the Emir of Argungu, Ismaila Muhammadu Mera; and Emir of Zuru Alh Muhammad Sanusi Mikailu Sami Gomo III.
Highlights of the ceremony included the payment of the dowry by the governor on behalf of each of the grooms and distribution of furnitures and kitchen utensils to the brides.
