Kebbi Govt opens remodelled hospitals’ emergency unit, mortuary
The Kebbi State Government has officially handed over the remodelled and expanded Accident and Emergency Unit of Sir Yahaya Memorial Hospital, Birnin Kebbi, and the mortuary facility at the Kebbi State Teaching Hospital, Kalgo
The upgrade of the units was to strengthen healthcare services in the state.
Speaking during the handing over of the revitalized unit at Sir Yahaya Memorial Hospital, the Commissioner for Health, Alhaji Ismail Yakubu Augie, said the transformation of the facility demonstrated Governor Nasiru Idris’ strong commitment to improving healthcare delivery across Kebbi state.
The commissioner, who represented the governor, described the health sector as one of the key priorities of the administration, emphasizing that no investment is too much when it comes to protecting the health and wellbeing of the people.
The Commissioner urged healthcare workers, patients and other stakeholders to ensure proper maintenance and effective utilization of the upgraded facility to guarantee its sustainability.
He thereafter handed over the keys of the renovated A&E Unit to the Chief Medical Director of the hospital and Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Dr. Shehu Koko.
Responding, Dr. Koko expressed appreciation to Governor Idris for his unwavering support to the hospital and pledged sustained maintenance, cleanliness and proper management of the facility.
Similarly, at the Kebbi State Teaching Hospital, Kalgo, the Commissioner handed over the renovated mortuary facility, which hitherto was out of use.
According to him, the renovation formed part of efforts to meet the requirements for the ongoing accreditation process for medical courses of Abdullahi Fodio University, Aliero, and to improve the overall standard of healthcare infrastructure in the state.
The commissioner said that the governor has approved the installation of about 120 solar streetlights poles in the hospital to improve visibility and power supply within the facility.
He said that an independent solar power system has already been provided to ensure uninterrupted electricity.
The commissioner commended the governor for his people-centred leadership and sustained investment in the health sector.
He charged the hospitals to ensure effective utilization and maintenance of the newly renovated facilities.
