A member of the House of Representatives from Kebbi State, Mansur Musa, has dumped the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP), for the All Progressives Congress, (APC), citing what he described as persistent internal crises within the opposition party.
Musa, who represents the Aliero/Gwandu/Jega Federal Constituency, announced his defection yesterday after Speaker Tajudeen Abbas read his letter of notification during plenary.
In his letter, the lawmaker said the PDP had become overwhelmed by “deep-seated internal fractures, persistent conflicts and unresolved crises,” which, he noted, had eroded unity and crippled the party’s capacity to function as a credible platform.
He added that the prolonged infighting had created an environment incompatible with the expectations of his constituents.
“These divisions have created an environment incompatible with my mandate and the expectations of the good people of my constituency,” he wrote.
Musa said his decision followed extensive consultations with community leaders, political stakeholders and constituents, adding that remaining in the PDP would compromise his ability to provide effective representation.
“After prayerful reflection and wide consultations, it became clear that staying within a platform engulfed in such unending crisis will hinder the effective representation that Almighty God has entrusted,” he said.
According to him, the APC offers a more coherent and stable political structure that aligns with the aspirations of his people.
“The APC provides the stability required for meaningful governance. My defection is therefore an act of responsibility, rooted in principle and anchored on the need to serve my people effectively,” he added.
He urged the House to update its records to reflect his new political affiliation.
Musa was formally received into the ruling party by APC members in the Green Chamber moments after his letter was read.
