Kefas visits Wukari, reaffirms commitment to peace
Taraba State Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas, on Saturday, attended a crucial peace and security meeting at the palace of the Aku Uka in Wukari, where he reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ensuring peace across the state.
Addressing a gathering of security chiefs, traditional rulers, religious leaders, and other key stakeholders, the Governor recalled the history of recurring crises in the area, noting that the people of Wukari and its environs have suffered greatly from instability over the years.
He stressed that his government would not tolerate any actions capable of threatening the fragile peace in the region.
“We cannot condone any form of threat to peace and security in this land,” he said firmly.
Dr. Kefas issued a strong warning to individuals using social media platforms to incite unrest or issue threats, urging them to desist immediately or face the full weight of the law.
According to him, such actions only worsen tensions and undermine ongoing peace building efforts of the state government.
The Governor assured the gathering that his administration is working tirelessly to secure the state and its borders, emphasizing that peace remains a top priority.
He highlighted the introduction of free and compulsory education as a strategic measure to address insecurity, explaining that education plays a critical role in shaping minds and reducing the likelihood of violence.
He called on all stakeholders present at the meeting to take active roles in promoting peace and unity within their communities.
He further urged residents to learn how to control anger, describing emotional restraint as essential for building a stable and harmonious society.
The Aku Uka and Chairman Taraba State Council of Chiefs and Emirs His Royal Majesty Dr Ishaku Adda Ali appreciated the Governor for his swift response to security matters of the state.
Earlier, the Chairman of Wukari Local Government Area, Hon. Bala Useni, said the meeting was convened in response to recent threats to peace in the area.
He noted that the situation required urgent attention and collective action from all concerned.
The meeting brought together heads of security agencies, traditional and religious leaders, as well as other critical stakeholders, all of whom pledged to work collaboratively to sustain peace and prevent further conflict in Wukari and the wider Taraba State.
