The Chief Coach of the Super Eagles, Stephen Keshi has said he will keep faith with the country’s top stars who have struggled for game time at their clubs ahead of the World Cup.
Mikel Obi has had limited playing time at Chelsea, Elderson Echiejile has yet to establish himself at Monaco, while Victor Moses has been virtually frozen out at Liverpool.
These players are expected to figure in Keshi’s 35-man provisional squad for Brazil 2014 and the Eagles coach said he will stick with them as they have continued to deliver for the national team.
“It’s unfortunate Mikel, Elderson and Moses is not playing regularly for their clubs. But they are not kids who I need to teach how to play football,” said Keshi.
“I would have loved them to be playing regularly for their clubs, but I can’t control that. I watched Mikel against Arsenal when he came in; he was sharp and played well.
“It’s difficult but they play good for the team when they are here which is more important for our team. We need them in the team and we all know their ability.”
Keshi also disclosed he has set a personal target for himself at the World Cup even though the NFF have not done so for the team.
“My employers the NFF didn’t set any targets for me to reach at Brazil 2014, but I have set a target for myself which is not meant for public consumption,” he said.
