Korean Cultural Center, Nigeria (KCCN) has held a video screening with artistic director of modern dance ‘evaporation’ geared spreading the excellence of Korean modern dance for the first time in Nigeria.

On May 15, 2024, the Korean Cultural Center in Nigeria Director, Kim Chang-gi, hereinafter referred to as the Cultural Center held a screening of the excellent video ‘Evaporation’ with support from the Seoul Arts Center .

The event was designed to introduce Korean modern dance for the first time to the host country in order to spread various K-contents. Idit Herman, the artistic director of ‘Into Thin air’, was invited online to discuss the work with attendees, thereby demonstrating its significance.

However, Idit said that as the Korean Wave spreads around the world, he wanted to express Korea’s modern society through dance saying that as the title ‘Into thin Air’ implies, it expresses the loneliness that we feel when the things we aim for in life disappear into thin air.

According Idit, “It was mentioned that futility was expressed by combining dance and cartoon graphics. In addition, looking at the audience of dance and production companies in the countries such as the National Council for Arts and Culture and Arojah Royal Theater Company who gathered to view his work”.

He expressed his wish to express the various aspects of Nigeria through music if given the opportunity.

Participants said that although modern dance was somewhat unfamiliar field, but were impressed by the use of various everyday objects as props and costumes.

Continuing, they stated that it was good to be able to appreciate the work with the Director’s explanation, while looking forward to the next content provided by the Korean Cultural Center.

It was revealed that in future, the Cultural Center will hold excellent video screenings at the Seoul Arts Center every month until September, including ‘Shimshung’ in June, ‘Chunhyang Prison Break’ in July, ‘Ward Girl Goes Home, Not Returning’ in August, and ‘Hurrah of the Women’ in September.

He said he would make efforts to spread various Korean cultural elements to the people living in the country and people in the art world of the country.
