Nigerian Foreign Minister, Amb. Yusuf Maitama Tuggar said that Republic of Korea’s support for Nigeria’s development priorities in impactful and tangible ways, has further reinforced the foundation of friendship and collaboration between the two nations.
Amb. Tuggar who made this known Friday during the celebration of Korean National Day in Abuja said Nigeria specially recognizes and appreciates Korea’s meaningful contributions through the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA).
Tuggar represented by Deputy Director, Asia & Pacific Division of Nigerian Foreign Ministry, Amb. Mohammed Haidara said Korea has supported Nigeria’s development priorities in impactful and tangible ways through the instrumentality of Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), further reinforcing the foundation of friendship and collaboration between the two nations.
He said the National Day of Korea stands as a vibrant tribute to the founding ideals and lasting accomplishments of the Republic of Korea.
He stated the event provides an opportunity not only to honor Korea’s historical journey, but also to reaffirm the core values that have guided its growth and progress over the years.
According to him, “Beyond a commemoration of national milestones, Korea’s National Day serves as a meaningful moment for reflection. It highlights the principles of peace, cooperation, and mutual respect, which have consistently underpinned diplomatic relations and engagement between our two nations.
“These values remain central to our shared commitment to fostering understanding and collaboration across various sectors.
“Nigeria and Korea have enjoyed a longstanding and cordial relationship, marked by mutual trust and a shared commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation.
“Over the years, our partnership has flourished across a range of sectors, including trade, investment, education, technology, and development cooperation.
“As we continue to navigate the complexities of the global landscape, it becomes increasingly evident that the strength of our future lies in the cultivation of strategic partnerships.
“These alliances, grounded in shared values and a commitment to mutual benefit, are essential for addressing the challenges and opportunities of our interconnected world.
“The Republic of Korea’s remarkable journey, marked by significant economic transformation and technological advancement, stands as a testament to the power of vision, resilience, and innovation. Korea’s achievements serve as a source of inspiration for nations around the world, including Nigeria.
“Looking ahead, we are eager to further expand our collaboration in areas of mutual interest. In particular, we see tremendous potential for partnership in digital innovation, renewable energy, and human capital development.
“By working together in these vital sectors, we can not only drive progress within our respective countries but also contribute meaningfully to global development and prosperity.
“We also acknowledge the vibrant Korean community in Nigeria, whose contributions to our society and economy further strengthen the bonds of friendship between our peoples. Their active participation in various sectors, ranging from business and education to cultural exchange, has played a significant role in deepening mutual understanding and cooperation.
“The presence of this dynamic community stands as a testament to the enduring ties and fruitful partnership that continue to flourish between Nigeria and the Republic of Korea.
“Nigeria remains committed to working closely with your government to advance our common goals and foster enduring goodwill’ he concluded.
Also speaking, Chairman of Nigeria-Korea Parliamentary Friendship Group and Member of Nigerian House of Representatives, Hon. Nnamdi Ezechi said the event of Korea’s National Day reminds of not only of Korea’s legendary origins, but also of the timeless values of resilience, innovation, and nation-building that continue to inspire the world.
He said the Republic of Korea had emerged as a shining example of what visionary leadership, discipline, and innovation can achieve.
According to Hon. Ezechi, “From a post-war nation to one of the most advanced economies in the world, Korea’s journey embodies the power of determination and national purpose.
“For Nigeria, Korea represents a true friend and development partner. Our two nations share a growing relationship built on mutual respect, trade, education, and technology.
In my capacity as Chairman of the Nigeria, South Korea Parliamentary Friendship Group, I am proud to note the deepening ties between our countries and the increasing collaborations between our governments, institutions, and peoples. As we celebrate Korea’s National Day, it is important to reaffirm our shared commitment to strengthening this partnership — in areas such as technology and industrial development, education and human capital, and energy cooperation” he said.
In his welcome remarks, Charge d’ Affaires of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Nigeria, Mr. Tak Namgung said Korean story was a humbling one, noting that Korea which was one of the poorest countries in the world, returned itself to a strong economy and creative society through hard work, education and most importantly, firm belief in democracy and freedom.
He said that 45 years of diplomatic relations between Korean Nigeria has made partnership and collaboration stronger and more diverse.
The guests were entertained with Korean traditional music and other performances. The event was historic as well as exciting.
