The Kwankwasiyya Movement has pushed back against claims that its members were sidelined during the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate selection process in Kano State, insisting that all stakeholders were given equal opportunities to participate.
Speaking during an interview on Trust TV, monitored in Abuja, the movement’s spokesperson, Habibu Mohammed, described reports of exclusion as inaccurate, maintaining that the process that produced candidates for the 2027 elections was transparent and broadly accepted.
According to Mohammed, the emergence of candidates was based on a consensus-building approach designed to unite various interests within the party and identify aspirants capable of strengthening the NDC’s electoral prospects.
He noted that members of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, as well as politicians who recently joined the party from other political platforms, actively participated in the process and were considered during consultations.
While acknowledging that political contests naturally generate differing opinions, Mohammed stressed that no candidate formally complained of being excluded throughout the exercise.
He argued that the process complied with both party regulations and the guidelines of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), adding that the objective was to ensure that candidates with the capacity to attract votes and contribute to party growth emerged.
The remarks come amid ongoing debates over the conduct of NDC primaries in Kano and reports suggesting that aspirants linked to the Kwankwasiyya Movement had been unfairly treated.
Mohammed, however, maintained that the exercise was inclusive and reflected the collective decisions of party stakeholders across the state.
