Kano state governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has accused the Federal Government of deliberately disuniting state governors, lamenting that such action is capable of jeopardizing the collective interest of Nigerians.
He stated this yesterday, during a meeting with the team from the secretariat of Nigerian Governors’ Forum, on Peer Review Mechanisms, led by the Director-General, Mr. Ashishana B. Okauru, at Council Chambers of Kano Government House, Kano.
In a statement issued and signed by the Director of Press and Public relations to the Governor, Halilu Ibrahim Dantiye, Kwankwaso said that federal Government is mischievously recognizing Governor Jang, who scored 16 votes as against Governor Amaechi who polled 19 votes during the forum’s election last year.
“Each of the 16 governors that voted for Governor Jang have benefited from N2 billion each from our own money, given to them free of charge. All of us from Amaechi’s side were given nothing; that is not being fair, that is not even correct and it is illegal”, Gov. Kwankwaso argued.
The governor asserted that Federal Government has so much to benefit from governors’ disunity, adding that it is because of this that it using hidden antics to destabilize the Governors’ Forum.
“We are having difficulties in coming together as one forum because the Federal Government is not respecting democratic tenets”, arguing that “for rapid progress to ensure, governors in the country must work as brothers.”
Speaking earlier, the Director-General of the Forum, Mr. Ashishana B. Okauru, said the forum wants to see all the 36 governors under one umbrella, pointing out that a lot of ground has already been lost in polio eradication, the lingering insecurity in the country, teeming youth unemployment and Excess Crude Account, lamenting that comradeship among the governors has also weakened.
The Director-General said that State Peer Review Mechanism (SPRM) meeting with the State Executive Council would pave a way for the stakeholders’ workshop, which formally commenced with the implementation of SPRM process in the state.
He commended the state government under Kwankwaso for the landmark achievements recorded such as creating of 24 women and youth development institutions, sponsoring of over 2000 indigenes among others, culminating in the Sun Newspaper Man of the Year Award for 2013.
Meanwhile, Governor Kwankwaso has signed a bill to regulate Trade Associations in Markets into law.
