The Kano State Governor, Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, at the weekend commended the state House of Assembly for assiduously discharging their legislative functions without seeking any financial inducement from the executive.

Declaring open a two-day second 2014 Legislative Retreat for members of Kano State House of Assembly, Kwankwaso, who described the lawmakers as “peaceful but most vibrant” in the country, noted that the legislators were strict adherents to the rule of law.

“The Kano State House of Assembly prepares budget and supplementary and discharge numerous other functions without requesting for any bribe and I congratulate you for that,” the Governor said.

Represented by his Deputy Governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduji, the Governor portrayed the assembly members as peaceful saying “you are peaceful achievers who have produced the highest number of laws.” The Governor, who expressed his gratitude to the leadership of the House for introducing public hearing as part of a people oriented programme, was optimistic that such is aimed at wooing public participation in government activities.

He said the arrangement by the House in carrying along the grassroots was in the best interest of electorates, noting further that, “this shows that you are mindful of public outcry and that is how it should be.”

In his remarks, Speaker of Kano State House of Assembly, Isyaku Ali Danja, lauded the state government for convening the event and called on participant to make the most of it.

Danja, who was represented by one of the members, Hamisu Ibrahim called on his colleagues to utilize their term in touching the lives of the electorates in a positive manner.
