Kwara Diaspora Group Urges Tinubu to Intervene in APC Crisis Ahead of 2027 Election

Date:

A diaspora-based group, the Diaspora Alliance for Kwara Development, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to urgently intervene in the crisis within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State, warning that the party risks losing the state to the opposition if the situation is not resolved.

In a statement signed by its Convener, Arc. Adeyemi Adams Abdulrahman, from Ontario, Canada, the group alleged that the crisis was triggered by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s withdrawal of his earlier endorsement of Ambassador Abdulfatai Seriki Yahaya Seriki and the conduct of what it described as a controversial governorship primary.

The group claimed that the governor’s decision to support the Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Yakubu Danladi-Salihu, instead of Seriki, had created divisions within the party, with several other aspirants reportedly rejecting the outcome of the primary.

According to the statement, the internal disagreements could weaken the APC’s chances in the 2027 governorship election, particularly as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is seeking to regain political ground in the state.

The group further argued that Seriki enjoys widespread support among young people and credited him with contributing to youth empowerment, job creation and economic development in Kwara. It also described him as one of the key figures in the “Otoge” political movement that ended the long-standing dominance of former governor Bukola Saraki in the state’s politics.

The Diaspora Alliance for Kwara Development appealed to President Tinubu to intervene before the party’s internal crisis worsens, warning that failure to resolve the dispute could cost the APC victory in the state during the 2027 elections.

The group also pledged that Kwarans in the diaspora would mobilise financial and grassroots support for the APC if Seriki eventually emerges as the party’s governorship candidate.

The statement concluded by expressing confidence that President Tinubu would take steps to prevent the party from losing Kwara to the opposition.
