Impeached former Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has reacted to his removal from office, saying it is not a sin for anybody to nurse an ambition to become the governor of Lagos in 2027.
Obasa made this statement during a press briefing at his residence in Lagos on Saturday.
The embattled former Speaker also challenged leaders in the state to tell the people of Lagos state when and where he told them that he was nursing the ambition to succeed the incumbent Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
“Having an ambition to become a governor is not a sin. However, I said on the floor of the House when the budget was presented that I had no thoughts of governorship but that does not mean I am not qualified or that I lack experience and I still maintain that position.
“I’m still the Speaker until the right thing has been done,” he said.
He also criticized the alleged militarization of the Assembly complex during the impeachment process.
Obasa further insisted that his removal as Speaker took place in his absence when he travelled out of the country.
It could be recalled that Obasa was impeached as Speaker of Lagos House of Assembly on Monday, January 13, 2025, when more than two-thirds of the 40-member legislative house voted him out over alleged misconduct and sundry offenses.
His former Deputy, Mojisola Lasbat Meranda, was immediately elected the new Speaker, and she made history as the first female to lead the Lagos State House of Assembly.
