Mustapha Sule Lamido, son of former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido, has secured the governorship ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2027 general elections through a consensus arrangement endorsed by delegates from the 27 local government areas of the state.
The chairman of the Electoral Committee constituted by the party’s national leadership, Barrister Isah Ahmed, declared Lamido the PDP governorship candidate after no other aspirant contested for the position.
Ahmed stated that delegates across the state ratified Lamido’s candidature through a voice vote conducted under the supervision of the committee, leading to his official emergence as the party’s flag bearer for the 2027 governorship election.
Reports indicated that the consensus process followed broad consultations and collaboration among party leaders and stakeholders across Jigawa State, resulting in a peaceful and orderly exercise.
The Jigawa State PDP Chairman, Babandi Ibrahim, congratulated Lamido, party members, and supporters, commending the smooth conduct of the primaries, which he described as peaceful and successful.
Speaking shortly after his emergence, Lamido said his nomination reflected a renewed determination to tackle the growing hardship, poor administration, and what he termed insensitive leadership in the state.
He said although the consensus arrangement highlighted unity within the party, the bigger task would be providing effective and people-oriented governance for residents of Jigawa State.
“We are not here to complain; we are here to provide solutions,” he said, while promising transparent leadership, competent governance, and renewed hope for the people.
Lamido also outlined plans to prioritise youth empowerment, education, healthcare, economic growth, and institutional rebuilding, describing his ambition as a collective mission to reposition and develop Jigawa State.
He urged party members to remain united ahead of the 2027 elections, stressing that victory would depend on discipline, cooperation, and commitment among all stakeholders.
Addressing the people of the state, he said: “To the people of Jigawa, I understand your struggles and share your concerns. I ask for the opportunity to serve you.”
The PDP candidate further thanked the national and state leadership of the party for ensuring a peaceful primary process and appealed to supporters to sustain the unity within the party as preparations for the governorship election continue.
