League of Northern Democrats meets former Presidents, Head of States over insecurity, poverty in the region

• Confirms Shekarau, Bio as Chairman, deputy

Former Governor of Kano State, Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau has been confirmed as the substantive Chairman of the League of Northern Democrats (LND),

with a former House of Representatives member and erstwhile Minister, Alhaji Ibrahim Biu as his deputy.

Also, another member of the lower arm of the National Assembly, Hon. Emmanuel Jime has emerged as the Secretary of the LND.

The confirmation was made at the end of a special meeting of the LND held Wednesday at the Yar’adua Centre, Abuja.

The LND, in a press release signed by its Convener, Dr Umar Ardo and Secretary, Hon Emmanuel Jime, explained that the

approved summit of the League has principally two main objectives.

These, according to the statement, are;

for it serve as a fulcrum around which to knit Northern unity, security and leadership and second, to proffer viable northern solutions to the existential challenges facing the northern region in three key areas of disunity, insecurity and poverty.

The LND, in its press release disclosed that it has commenced a visitation to all past Presidents and Heads of State from the North.

The League has further constituted a standing steering committee and five sub-committees including standing steering committee chaired by Sen. Ibrahim Ida (Wazirin Katsina).

The sub-committees created are; Contact and Mobilization, chaired by Dr. Ja’afar Bello Dambazau from Kano state; Programs Planning and Logistics, chaired by Alh. Danjuma Ibrahim from Sokoto state; Media and Publicity, chaired by Dr. Ladan Salihu from Bauchi state;. Intelligence and Security, chaired by AVM Monday Morgan from Benue state; and Events and Protocol, chaired by Amb. Mohammed Hassan from Borno state.

Former Director-General, DG of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, FRCN, Dr. Ladan Salihu was also appointed as the Spokesman of the League.

The LND has however fixed 12 and 13 November, 2024 as the dates to hold the Northern Nigerian Summit in Kaduna.
