The High Commissioner of Islamic Republic of Pakistan to Nigeria, Retired Major General Sohail Khan, has stated that Pakistani nation stands tall and firm against all odds and urged that citizens renew their commitment to building a stronger Pakistan, one that leads in innovation, peace, and prosperity.

 

Retired Major Gen. Sohail made this known during the jointly commemoration of Pakistan’s Independence Day and Defence Day yesterday in Abuja.

Sohail said, ” I am privileged and proud to represent a nation that has risen from humble beginnings to become a beacon of resilience, progress, security and global stature. Pakistan’s journey since 1947 has been one of remarkable achievement. Today, our nation stands tall on the world stage, contributing to global peace, economic growth, and human development. A key player in international forums, a reliable partner in counter-terrorism efforts, and a voice for justice in regions like Kashmir and Palestine.

“Our contributions to UN peacekeeping missions, with over 200,000 troops deployed since 1960, underscore our commitment to global stability. Fifth-largest producer of cotton and fourth-largest producer of rice, fifth global producer of sugarcane, amongst top ten in wheat, mangoes, dates, and oranges, key supplier of sports goods in the world, Pakistan continues to shine in global food security and productivity. Home of World’s second tallest Peak K2, Pakistan’s natural wonders are equally awe-inspiring with five of the world’s 14 eight thousanders in our Northern Region.

“No tribute to Pakistan stature is complete without honoring our armed forces. Ranked 12th globally in the 2025 Global Firepower Index. Pakistan’s strategic forces further strengthen it as a responsible Nuclear State. Our Armed Forces exemplify extraordinary courage, unwavering resolve and profound sacrifice in their unyielding battle against the menace of terrorism, safeguarding not only their homeland but contributing significantly to global peace sacrificing over 80,000 brave men and women of the soil.
