Electronics giant LG has reaffirmed its commitment to corporate social responsibility by donating a solar-powered borehole to the Ayeye Community in Ibadan, Oyo State. This marks the company’s eighth such project in Nigeria, providing life-changing access to clean water for communities facing severe water scarcity.
Residents of Ayeye welcomed the initiative with gratitude, celebrating the company’s support in addressing a pressing need. Rear Admiral Lateef Akintola (retired), Mogaji of the Balogun Ibikunle family, expressed appreciation on behalf of the community.
“We are profoundly grateful for this thoughtful act by LG Electronics. While many companies operate in Oyo State, few have stepped up to make such a significant impact in our communities,” he said. “LG’s commitment to providing constant access to clean water through solar energy is not just a gift; it’s a lifeline for us.”
Speaking on the company’s efforts, LG’s Corporate Marketing Manager, Paul Mba, emphasized the importance of clean water accessibility.
“Access to clean water is a fundamental right that should be available to everyone, and we are proud to take this step towards making that a reality in Nigeria,” he said.
Mba added that the solar-powered borehole will not only provide clean drinking water but also ease the burden on residents, particularly women and children who often travel long distances to fetch water.
The Honourable Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr. Wasiu Ajani Olatunbosun, also commended LG Electronics for its continued commitment to community development.
“This initiative is not just about providing clean water; it’s about fostering a sense of community and ensuring that our citizens have access to essential resources,” he said.
LG’s efforts were supported by its partner, Fouani Nigeria Limited. The company’s Ibadan Branch Manager, Mr. Jad Atwi, highlighted the significance of collaboration in driving sustainable projects.
“This borehole is a testament to what can be achieved when organizations come together for a common cause,” he said. “We are thrilled to partner with LG Electronics in improving the lives of the Ayeye community.”
LG Electronics has consistently championed sustainability and community welfare in Nigeria. The company’s slogan, “Life’s Good,” reflects its vision of enhancing well-being through innovative solutions.
Dignitaries present at the borehole commissioning included local government officials, community leaders, and representatives from UNICEF and Oyo State’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
As LG Electronics continues its mission to improve lives through sustainable initiatives, the donation of the Ayeye borehole stands as a testament to its long-term commitment to environmental and social progress in Nigeria.
