The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila has disclosed that the Bill for Act to Repeal the National Lottery Act No 7 is a crucial legislation deserving of thorough consideration and reasoned debate by the parliament of the people, acting in the people’s best interests.
This is just as Service Compact With All Nigerians (SERVICOM), is appealing to the Parliament to ensure a legal framework for it with a view to enhancing effective service delivery.
The Speaker stated this at a public hearing on A Bill for an Act to Repeal the National Lottery Act No 7, 2005 and the National Lottery (Amendment) Act No 6, 2017 and Enact the National Gaming Bill.
The Speaker who was represented by the Deputy Leader of the House, Hon Peter Akpatason, said, “As legislators, we have a responsibility to meticulously review and examine every aspect of these Bills to ensure that we produce a final output that is clear in its objectives, thoughtful in the mandates it imposes, and reflective of the best aspirations of all our citizens
Mrs. Nnenna Akajemeli, National Coordinator and Chief Executive Officer of SERVICOM in her presentation enumerated the importance of creating enabling field for the body to deliver on it’s mandate such as a making it a statutory entity backed by an Act of the Parliament.
“The rationale for the commitment is to provide SERVICOM with the legal framework to serve as a statutory body with that ability of tracking, monitoring and supporting quality service delivery.
“A legal framework will also provide legal backing to empower SERVICOM institutionalize service delivery to customers and to ensure that work ethics are observed within organisations.”
