Makinde: PDP Remains Platform for 2027 Elections

Date:

Gov. Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has reaffirmed that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) remains the platform on which all aspirants will contest the 2027 general elections.
Makinde made the declaration during a high-level stakeholders’ meeting held in Ibadan on Monday night, stressing that his political structure remains firmly within the PDP and that there are no plans to defect to another party.
The governor also stated that all first-term lawmakers currently serving in the National Assembly and the Oyo State House of Assembly would be granted automatic tickets to seek re-election.
He further disclosed that the party would adopt a consensus-based approach in selecting candidates for the governorship and other elective positions.
Makinde emphasised the need for unity and internal cohesion within the party, noting that these were critical to sustaining its dominance in the state.
Reacting to the outcome of the meeting, a PDP chieftain in Ibadan, Mr Adamolekun Ayinde, urged the governor to prioritise reconciliation efforts within the party.
According to Ayinde, resolving differences between the two factions in the state is essential to ensuring a successful outing in the 2027 elections.
He also cautioned against granting automatic tickets to first-term lawmakers, citing the party’s current fragile position in the state.
However, Ayinde expressed support for the adoption of consensus candidates, provided that both factions reach an agreement following reconciliation efforts.
