A 70 year old man, simply identified as Baba Ijemo yesterday committed suicide by hanging himself inside his bedroom in his Olorombo residence in Abeokuta; the Ogun State Capital.

The corpse of the man, who was a father of seven was discovered on Monday afternoon by neighbours and co-tenants following an offensive odour emanating from his two room apartment.

Sources in the house informed the Peoples Daily that the old man had in recent time been hostile to his neighbours and co-tenants for reasons they could not established.

Peoples Daily correspondent however, gathered that none of his relatives lived with him including his seven children for quite a long time before the incident.

“As a result of the odour emanating from the room, while the door was locked behind, co-tenants became curious to find out, and had to peep through the window, only to discover the dangling body of the old man with a rope hooked to the ceiling of the room tied round his neck”, the source said.

Police were later informed about the incident and visited the scene to commence investigations.

Some of the residents and neighbours who spoke with our correspondent under the condition of anonymity expressed the view that he might have been frustrated due to neglect by his immediate family, since none of his seven children nor any relations had visited him for a very long time.
