Man arraigned for falsely obtaining N.4m

A 45-year-old man, Chinedu Orji, was yesterday arraigned at an Asaba Magistrates’ Court for falsely obtaining N400,000 with the promise of selling a plot of land.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Orji was charged with not redeeming his promise after obtaining money from one Bernard Azubike.

When the matter came up for hearing, the prosecutor, Mr David Okeh, told the court that the accused committed the offence on Oct. 17, 2013 at 4, Terepreye Street, Asaba.

He said the offence was punishable under Section 419 of the Criminal Code Cap C 21, Vol. 1, Laws of Delta State, 2006.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge.

In her ruling, the magistrate, Miss Queen Momoh, granted the accused bail in the sum of N200,000 and a surety in like sum.

She also ordered that the surety must be a civil servant on a salary grade level not less than 09, be resident in Asaba and provide two passport photographs.

The case was then adjourned to March 19 for hearing.(NAN)
