Man in trouble for receiving stolen property

Date:

The Police have arraigned a man, Adewumi Adeniyi, 30, of Bwari, Abuja, in a Wuse Zone 2 Senior Magistrates’ court, for allegedly receiving a stolen property.

The police prosecutor, Cpl. Umar Ango, told the court that the accused was arrested with one DSTV walka valued a N38,000.

Ango said that the item was the property of Mr Friday Okwela of Ibrahim Taiwo Street, Aso villa, Abuja, that was reported stolen on August 6, 2013 at Wuse police station.

The prosecutor said the offence contravened the Penal Code.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty.

“My lord, I never knew it was a stolen property. I bought the walka from a man who said he is tired of using it and need to dispose it.

“I like it to keep me busy whenever I am free and I bought it since I have been seeing him using it for long,’’ Adeniyi said.

The magistrate, Mr Aminu Eri, admitted the accused to bail for N50,000 with two sureties.

Eri ordered that the sureties must depose to an affidavit of means and be resident within the court’s jurisdiction.

He adjourned the case until June 16 for further hearing. (NAN)
