Man kills Kebbi Finance Director over alleged N3.5m land deals

A middle-aged man, Bello Uban Dawaki has been arrested by Sokoto state Police Command, in connection with the murder of one Alhaji Yahaya Sa’idu, a Director of Finance in Government House, Kebbi state.

Parading the suspects alongside his accomplishes before journalists in Sokoto, the police spokesman, Al -mustapha Sani, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), said the incident happened on Friday, September 15, 2014.

He explained that the suspect had invited the deceased for a business meeting in his residence, at Panawa, a sub area of Sokoto metropolis.

But unknowingly to the late Director, the suspect had connived with other accomplishes, now in police custody, and stabbed the deceased to death with a jack knife.

He said the Command uncovered the horrific incident after the deceased’s wife reported about the missing husband.

He explained that the deceased was hurriedly buried in a shallow grave, dug in a room within his apartment. Sani added that a team of police investigators were dispatched to the suspect’s house, where the already decomposed body was exhumed.

Residents, who spoke with journalists at the scene of the incident, described the suspect as a personal agent of the late Director before his untimely death.

It was gathered that the deceased had commissioned the suspect at different times to secure some land properties within Sokoto metropolis on his behalf, to the tune of N3.5 million, which the suspect failed to deliver.

DSP Sani added that all suspects arrested in connection have since confessed to the crime.

The police spokesman, however, said that investigation to the case is still ongoing, saying “the command would diligently prosecute the suspects in accordance to the law.”
