A store manager and his assistant were on Tuesday brought before an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos over alleged theft of 224 drums of chemicals worth N18 million.

The accused — Henry Ajetumobi, 53, and Felix Alao,36 — are facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.

Ajetumobi resides at Block 528, Flat 3, Jakande Estate, Ipaja, a Lagos suburb, while Alao also lives at No.14, Ebun Olojede, Amuwo Kuje on Lagos-Badagry Expressway.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Cousin Adams, told the court that the offences were committed on March 24 at Plot 4c, Ijora Causeway, Lagos.

He said the Managing Director of Iddo Plastics Company Ltd, Mr. I. Amanthan, discovered the missing chemicals after taking stock.

“The complainant discovered that 224 drums of DOP chemicals were missing in the company’s warehouse after taking stock.

“The company also hired a private investigation company known as EFA Forensics, whose personnel detected that the accused manipulated the company’s records and made double entries,” Adams said.

He said the offences contravened Sections 285 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos state, 2011.

The duo pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Magistrate, Mr. K.O. Ogundare, granted the accused bail in the sum of N1million each with two sureties each in like sum.

He adjourned the case to July 30 for further hearing. (NAN)
