The police yesterday arraigned a 29-year-old marketer, Ugochukwu Iheanacho in an Abuja Magistrates’ Court for absconding with N965, 000 belonging to his clients.
Iheanacho, who resides at Ado Village, Nasarawa State, is charged with a two count of criminal breach of trust and cheating.
The prosecutor, Cpl. Godwin Philips, told the court that Mr Chris Ushen of Code of Conduct, Abuja, lodged a report against the accused at the Central Area Police Station on March 26.
Philips said that sometime in December, the accused went to complainant’s office and introduced himself as marketer with Crossworld Global Marketing Resources, Abuja.
He said the accused asked him to register as a customer with him to be able to pay by installment for products such as television sets, deep freezers and air conditioners.The prosecutor said that the accused collected N965, 000 from the complainant and absconded to an unknown destination.
He said all efforts made by the complainant to trace Iheanacho yielded no results until he was arrested on March 26 by the police.He added that the offence contravened the provisions of sections 312 and 322 of the Penal Code.
If convicted, he is liable to five years in prison or with option of fine.The accused pleaded not guilty to the offence.
The Magistrate, Mrs Fatimah Malo, admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N100, 000 and a surety in like sum.
Malo said the surety must have a fixed address and be reside within the jurisdiction of the court.
She adjourned the matter until April 10 for hearing. (NAN)
