Mass metering: FG intervention will ensure speedy, equitable distribution – KEDCO

The Managing Director of the Kano Electricity Distribution Company, KEDCO, Dr Jamilu Isiyaku Gwamna said the intervention of the Federal Government in the Mass Metering would  no doubts ensure speedy and equitable distribution of the meter across the federation, and will certainly regulates issues of energy thefts and bypassing of meters in the supplying of power.

He similarly denied that the KEDCO is using adulterated meter which has a high speeds to surcharge Customers, the company metres which was nicknamed, “Mai Barewa”.

While assuring that KEDCO is doing all it could to ensure that all it’s franchises areas of Kano, Katsina, and Jigawa enjoyed uninterrupted power supply of 24 hours, he called on Customers to reciprocate by setting their energy tariffs.

Also speaking, Shamsuddeen Zubairu Mahmoud who is a General Manager, said, a number of regulations have been put in place which has to do with how customers are served as far back as 2005 when the industry was even government owned.

“Following privatisation in 2013, we have had a number of new developments. So, we realise that there’s a need to have some amendments, some changes in this regulation.

“In line with the process, we develop a consultation paper and we expose it to the public requesting them to make comments on this consultation paper that has to do with amendment we are proposing or changes to this regulations.

“We gave them period between June, July to August or so within which comments were harvested. 

“After doing that, we realised also that there’s need for us to go round the country and meet those who were unable to respond to these comments so that we can here from them directly.

“Secondly, we realised that there has been numerous complaints on service by the Discos. So, we used this opportunity also to directly interact with customers that have complaint. 

“We will sit with the customers and also with the Discos or their representatives so that we can resolve these complaints.

“The national metering program is an initiative of the federal government of Nigeria together with the commission of course which is something we have been clamouring for long”.
