The Management of the Modibbo Adams University Yola(MAU) will be graduating a total of 4,638 candidates in its forthcoming 27th Covocation ceremony slated for Saturday 13th 2023.
Vice Chancellor of the university, professor Abdullahi Liman Tukur made the disclosure at a pre-convocation press conference explaining that,63 fresh graduates will finish with first class degrees while 1069 candidates will finish with second class upper and 552 will finish with third class as 40 will be graduating with pass degrees.
Tukur noted that in the category of higher degrees, 72 candidates will finish with postgraduate diplomas, 480 candidates will finish with masters degrees and 80 will graduate with PhDs.
He stated that, preparations have been concluded to confer on four distinguished Nigerians Honorary degrees for their outstanding contributions in human and social development.
Tukur disclosed the recipients as Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Sa’ad Abubakar who will be honoured with Doctor of Law (Honoris Causa) and businessman Alh. Muhammad Indimi who will receive Doctor of Management (Honoris Causa).
Others are former governor Boni Haruna of Adamawa state who will receive Doctor of Science (Honoris Causa) and Alh. Dahiru Bobbo, a seasoned administrator and educationist who will be conferred with Doctor of Letters (Honoris Causa) respectively.
The Vice Chancellor decried that, lack of lecturers in the universities is one of the major challenges confronting the system in the country
“Universities must be allowed to recruit staff as and when needed without external control.
“The universities should be allowed to operate the personnel cost of the institutions as appropriated by the National Assembly.”
The university will be having its first convocation ceremony since it was converted from technology based to a conventional university and the 27th in its 40 years of establishment.
