The Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) Office said on Tuesday that said it built 2,734 Ventilated Improved Pit (VIP) latrines and equipped 5,206 health facilities in 2012 and 2013 across local governments in the country.
Dr Precious Gbeneol, the Special Assistant to the President on MDGs, made this known in Abuja at a workshop organised by MDGs Office for 2014 the Conditional Grants Scheme (CGS) to all the councils.
Gbeneol also said that 12,342 water projects were provided in the water and sanitation sector, adding that about 68,430 Village Health Workers were trained in the various local governments.
She said that 520 referral vehicles (ambulances) were distributed to various health centres while 356 health workers’ quarters were renovated during the period under review.
“Under the education sector, 3,136 classrooms have been constructed and renovated, 2,807,208 exercise books distributed, about 81,603 benches and chairs provided in various government schools.’’
The office also constructed 92 teachers’ quarters and trained education extension workers across several LGAs in the country.
According to her, more than 103,067 households benefitted from the CGS while 1,074 agricultural cooperatives had received micro-credit grants.
The special assistant explained that the objective of the workshop was to strengthen the capacity of stakeholders at all levels.
Earlier, Sen. Ali Ndume, the Chairman, Senate Committee on MDGs, said that the National Assembly would continue to support the MDGs office to ensure successful implementation of its projects. (NAN)
