Media practitoners have been charged to give more attention to the climate especially in an evolving global warming.

Similarly, they are urged to ensure sustenance of the ecosystem by preserving it for future.

This was the core of a 2-day Environmental Journalism Workshop with theme, ‘Reporting the Environment For Sustainability organized by Dangote Group in partnership with Climate Africa Media Initiative Centre, CAMIC.

The workshop had more than 50 journalists drawn from Benue, Abuja, Kwara and the host State Kogi participating.

Speaking during the workshop, Head Human Resources, Obajana Dangote Plant Adimoyi Haruna, explained that th essence of the workshop is underscored when International Press institute raised the alarm that environmental reporting has not been taken very seriously by the media.

He said the environment bind individuals as it enables human as well as business to strive, adding that all sphere of life life is dependent on the environment.

Haruna also, it is meant to broaden journalists horizon as well as enlighten them in what corporate organization like Dangote group is doing in paying attention to environmental sustainability

In his report, Community Sustsinabity Response, CRS head Ademola Adeyemi stressed that they carried out research which indicated that there is high influx of people with the resultant security issues, intimating that the company as part of Community Sustainability Response entered into social.contract with the host community, Obajana.

He disclosed that the company has drilled 16 bore holes for the 3 communities including the immediate community Obajana, developed infrastructure like schools, health center.

“We have community debt agreement. Build capacity of indigenes. Scholarship schemes, empowerment of youth,women and vulnerable grps in fashion designing, poultry and other skills.
