The Daily Trust Foundation in conjunction with Mac Arthur Foundation has commenced a 3-day capacity building training on investigative and Multimedia journalism for twenty five (25) journalists based in the North East states.
Delivering his welcome address at the workshop in Yola Monday, Programme Director of the Daily Trust Foundation,Theophilus Abbah told the 25 participants that they were selected from the six states in the zone purposely to broaden their knowledge on multimedia journalism.
Abbah explained that the emergence of Internet has digitally brought the entire world to become a global village with people seeing and listening to happenings in the comfort of their abodes .
Abbah added that the dynamics of journalism in the internet palace is naturally facing out the old ways of handling stories as journalists now use their mobile devices to send their stories immediately.
“The Foundation with support from MacArthur have put together a workshop on multimedia journalism which would broaden journalists’understanding of multimedia reporting.
“We urge you (participants) to be attentive,interactive and ask relevant questions with a view to be loaded on the packages imbedded in the various resource persons invited for the training.
“The essence is to encourage journalists on human interest stories for fact checking so that most of the threats,fears and true picture of happenings can be brought to front banner the attention of target audience in the societies”.Abbah stressed.
A participant at the workshop,Bilkisu Umar of the Progress Radio Gombe in an interview described the training as timely and inspirational considering the negative stories flying on the social media .
Umar expressed delight over the opportunity accorded to her to partake in the training “I really appreciate the Daily trust Foundation for the golden opportunity”.
