The FCT chapter of the National Association of Government General Medical and Dental Practitioners (NAGGMDP), an affiliate of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), has gotten new leadership to pilot its affairs.

The new State Officers Council (SOC) that emerged during its Annual General Meeting (AGM), Scientific Conference, and Elections were swore-in new in Abuja.

In his inaugural address, the newly inaugurated State Chairman of the Association, Dr. Okoreffia Ogbonnaya, outlined an ambitious agenda aimed at enhancing the welfare and professional development of government-employed general medical and dental practitioners across the FCT.

Ogbonnaya added that the key priorities under his leadership include the establishment of a permanent secretariat for the Association, advocacy for eligible members on Grade Level 15 to 17 with postgraduate qualifications to assume leadership roles in government hospitals, and collaboration with the national body to secure General Practitioner (GP) allowances similar to those enjoyed by specialist consultants.

He promised to drive membership expansion, promote civil service training access, and support members’ retirement preparation through guidance on pension funds, National Housing Schemes, and health insurance.

He also pledged  to introduce postgraduate training support for members pursuing advanced degrees such as Master’s, PhDs, and post-doctoral studies.

He ewually highlighted plans for specialized management training through institutions such as the Nigerian Institute of Management (Chartered), the Centre for Management Development (CMD), and the Institute of Strategic Management of Nigeria (Chartered).

It was gathered that other members elected into the new State Officers Council (SOC) include Dr. Ekama Erhinyoja Peter (Federal Medical Centre, Institution and Research District) as Vice Chairman, Dr. Umar Alhaji Umar (Maitama District Hospital, FCTA) as Secretary Dr. Ihegazie Dorothy (Abuja and Municipal Area Council, FCTA), Assistant Secretary.

Others include; Dr. Olaniyi Olatayo Jethro (Kuje General Hospital, FCTA) as Treasurer and Dr. Magode Dikko Stephen (Bwari Area Council, FCTA) as Publicity Secretary.
