Medical Women’s Association of Nigeria has conferred health and wellness award on Alliance Hospital Managing Director, Dr Christopher Otabor.
The award which took place on Friday in Abuja, was in recognition of his giant strides in improvement of health and wellness in the country.
Speaking while receiving the award, the medical expert said this is the fourth award he is receiving this week.
He added that this is one of the biggest award given to him by the Medical Women Association of Nigeria.
“It’s the umbrella body of all the women doctors in Nigeria and they recognised me for the impact that we’re making as a hospital, and as an individual in contributing to the healthcare of people. The recognition was also for some of our humanitarian gestures, so it’s well appreciated”.
He said the award is an encouragement, knowing that people are watching his contributions in the sector.
“So, I want to call on my colleagues and other well-meaning Nigerians who have the means and the physician to reach out to people with the milk of human kindness to help people who probably cannot help themselves to contribute meaningfully to societal development, this is quite fulfilling to me to continue to do more.”
Speaking further, he said “we cannot continue to wait for governments to do everything because there are also challenges that the government is facing. We must evolve as a nation and private individuals, private organisations should step up their games and come together as communities to help them.
“So I want to call on private individuals who have money, the rich ones amongst us to donate generously towards the development of our healthcare, and also to set up foundations to be able to solve societal problems, particularly healthcare-related problems.“.
While speaking on the conference,
Zainab Bagudu, former first lady of Kebbi state, said the meeting was well attended.
“We recognised and celebrated people who have contributed to society. Also, the panel sessions were very informative. And I hope and pray that we will continue to receive support from the wider stakeholders including the government, other civil societies, other professional bodies, and our professional colleagues. It’s also important to note that we have to look after our healthcare professionals in Nigeria, not just the women but all healthcare professionals so that we can reverse the current trend that we’re seeing whereby our professionals are leaving for greener pastures due to poor motivation and several other factors.”
On her part, Professor Rosemary Ogu, harped on the need for collaboration and networking.
“We need to collaborate. We need to network. We need to know what others are doing because there’s so much new things coming up. There are so many things people are doing. And if you’re not aware, you cannot even make use of the available opportunities. So this conference was to set the stage for us to embark on a journey where we collaborate, where we live in harmony, where we give hope to each other in line with the renewed hope initiative of our dear President and his wife, to tell Nigerians that things are going to get better and we can do it collectively as a people if we stand together”.
