Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris Malagi has assured of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment in working with the press to strengthen democracy and build safe, sound and prosperous nation.
Malagi who made this known in Abuja Wednesday at the unveiling of a new online medium, Pinnacle Daily, established by Pinnacle Digital Resources Ltd.
Malagi represented by the Executive Secretary of Nigerian Press Council (NPC), Dr Dili Ezughah, congratulated the management of Pinnacle Digital Resources Ltd for unveiling the platform, saying it wouldn’t have come at a better time order than this.
He said the idea came at a crucial time in Nigeria’s democratic journey, maintaining that it was as a demonstration of faith in the role of journalism in national development.
According to Malagi, “It wouldn’t have come at a better time order than this. You have demonstrated your faith in the importance of journalism in nation building. Assure of demonstrable readiness of Tinubu’s administration to work with the press to ensure democracy and aim in building the safe sound and prosperous nation.
“As you are carrying out your important role as purveyors of information for mass consumption, the need to stink to the ethics and codes of our noble profession. So that at all times, truth, fairness and justice, social responsibility will be evident in our part. That way, we will always be defended, justified, even applauded and exonerated” Malagi noted.
Also speaking, former Governor of Ogun State and chairman of the occasion, Chief Olusegun Osoba, commended the promoters of Pinnacle Daily for establishing the publication despite the current economic challenges in the media industry.
Osoba, represented by Chief Eric Teniola, said that although the internet and artificial intelligence had redefined journalism, ethical standards remained the hallmark of credible practice.
His words, “Journalism will continue to thrive as long as professionals stay true to ethics and the pursuit of truth. Citizen journalism has expanded access to information, but it also raises concerns about accuracy, standards, and ethics. The duty to uphold professionalism rests with us” he said.
