Minister of Defence lauds DICON@56

The Minister of Defence, Major General Bashir Magashi (rtd) has expressed delight that Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria ( DICON) has been able to produce Nigeria’s first indigenous Mine Resistant Ambush Protected vehicles (MRAP), Mine Sweepers as well as other armoured and soft skin vehicles.
He stated this when he commissioned a newly refurbished weapons and ammunition production line as part of activities to mark the 56th anniversary of the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON) in kaduna.
He acknowledged the progress made by the corporation in the area of reactivating the moribund Explosive factory in Jebba saying, “Knowing that DICON cannot do it alone, the MOD will continue to support such strategic partnerships.”

He paid tribute to the founding fathers of the nation for their foresight in establishing DICON which he said played a critical role in the resolution of the 3-year long Nigerian civil war.
While pledging that the ministry will continue to support strategic partnerships with the corporation, he further reminded the Armed forces to procure uniforms from DICON by 2021 DICON-SUR corporate wears Nigeria limited.
The Director-General, DICON, Major General Victor Ezugwu said the corporation has commenced production of ammunition, protective garments, Ezugwu MRAP, COVID-19 products among others.
He assured the minister that DICON is stepping up vigorously on its mandate in order to enhance its military equipment production capabilities.
Highlights of the event was presentation of merit awards to past Director General’s of the corporation
The production lines was part of landmark projects recently undertaken to enhance the capacity of the corporation including the special equipment factory used for production of ballistic helmet, bullet proof vests, uniforms and other defence related equipment
DICON was established in 1964 by an Act of Nigeria’s post-independence parliament.
