The Chairman of Yoruba Council of Obas and Chiefs in the 19 Northern States and Abuja, Ambassador Muhammad Arigbagbuwo has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for the swift appointment of the Service Chiefs and other heads of security formations in the country.
Speaking to the media in Kaduna yesterday, Ambassador Arigbagbuwo described the development as a clear departure from past administrations where sensitive positions are left vacant after the exit of their predecessors.
He stressed that the prompt appointment was a clear indication of President Tinubu’s commitment towards addressing the security challenges bedevilling the country.
The Royal Father, while commending the President for ensuring that equity and competence was observed in the appointment of the new Service Chiefs, urged the appointees to work together to rid Nigeria of the menace of banditry and insurgency.
“The President had hitherto made a commitment to Nigerians that religion and ethnicity will not find a place in his government, but competence and character will. And he has just demonstrated that in his recent appointments,” he stressed.
Arigbagbuwo, who noted that the task ahead of the Service Chiefs was enormous as the safety and security of over 200 million Nigerians lay in their hands, assured that the group would not hesitate to call them out if they failed to deliver.
Tinubu announced the appointment of the new Service Chiefs: Major General Christopher Musa as Chief of Defence Staff (CDS); Major General Taoreed Lagbaja as Chief of Army Staff; Rear Admiral E. A Ogalla as Chief of Naval Staff; Air Vice Marshal Hassan Abubakar, as Chief of the Air Staff; and Major General Emmanuel Undiandeye, as Chief of Defence Intelligence; in a statement from the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF).
