MTN Nigeria has announced a scheduled network maintenance exercise that will temporarily disrupt telecommunications services across parts of Adamawa, Borno, and Kano states this weekend.
The company said the intervention is aimed at permanently restoring a damaged fiber infrastructure along the AFCOT–Bawo Village route in Adamawa State. The upgrade will involve diverting traffic to a newly installed fiber span to eliminate recurrent faults and boost network resilience.
The exercise is slated for Saturday, August 24, 2025, between 6:00 a.m. and 8:00 a.m., during which subscribers may experience service interruptions. The downtime is expected to affect 101 sites across 15 Local Government Areas (LGAs), impacting 2G, 3G, 4G, and enterprise services.
Affected areas include Nasarawa LGA in Kano State; Girei, Song, Mubi North, Hong, Gombi, Fufore, Mubi South, Madagali, Michika, Maiha, Chibok, and Yola North LGAs in Adamawa State; as well as Askira/Uba and Shani LGAs in Borno State.
MTN explained that the route’s “linear and unprotected” nature makes the brief downtime unavoidable, with work scheduled in daylight hours for security reasons.
“MTN regrets any inconvenience this may cause and appreciates the patience of its customers as we work to improve network quality and reliability,” the operator said in a statement.
The maintenance is part of MTN’s broader investment strategy to reinforce infrastructure in Nigeria’s Northeast, a region often hampered by fragile connectivity and security challenges.
