Former Inspector General of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), Mohammed Adamu (rtd) on Friday picked his expression of interest and nomination forms for the primary election of the All Progressives Congress (APC), with a firm promise to focus on security if elected.
Adamu who spoke to newsmen after obtaining his form said he highly optimistic of clinching the party’s ticket in the state, as well as winning the governorship election for the ruling APC.
He also expressed his readiness for the primary election which will be by the direct primary mode, where all the party members in the state will be voting for the aspirant of their choice.
The former Police boss said he knows what it takes to contest in a primary election in Nasarawa state, adding that he will be going back to the state to mobilize his supporters.
“We have teaming supporters and we will go back before the day of the primaries again to sensitise and mobilise our supporters so as to come out on the day of the primary election. We are confident that today after the primary election we need their support”.
When asked about his first objective, the former IGP said he will focus on security and also to ensure that the system in Nasarawa state works for every citizen and resident.
“Well, I think the first objective when we get there is to talk of security, to make sure that everybody is safe in the state. We need to provide physical security and human security and all aspects of security.
“We have to look into it and establish that. The moment we establish a solid foundation of security, then it will be very easy for us to achieve other projects, developmental projects for the state. We have a lot of initiatives for the women, for the youth and for the economic development of the state. So my first priority is to provide adequate security in the state”.
On the endorsement of his rival, Sen. Aliu Wadada by the state governor, Engr. Abdulahi Sule, the aspirant said the governor is free to support anybody he likes, but insisted that it’s the Nasarawa voters that will decide who governs the state.
“The governor is a human being, just like any other person. And he feels that he has a preferred candidate. So he has the right to do that. Just like you, maybe in Nasarawa state you don’t prefer Wadada, you prefer somebody like me. It’s also your choice.
“So we don’t take offence at all. All that we want is to appeal to the people in the state for them to give us support”, he concluded.
