Myths about diabetic diets

Over the years, there’s been upcoming myths about the diabetic and what kind of food he should eat. Those myths have made if difficult for healthy feeding which has equally affected his well being.

Of such myths are:

1 the diabetic patients are not expected to eat any starchy food because of the belief that it raises blood sugar level; so the fearful patient stay completely stay away from starchy foods, which is suppose to supply energy to the body in order to prepare one for the day’s activities. Dieticians have however  advised that everyone needs some carbohydrate giving foods every day to supply strength or energy to the body.

2 Another, is that they should cut down on their calories immediately; which the body system may find difficult to adjust to as it is done so abruptly, meanwhile experts have advised that one way to stop the body from responding negatively is to eat at the appropriate time, “the best way to deal with food cravings is to try to prevent them by following a healthy eating plan,” they said.

3 There is also the believe that the diabetic should eat differently from the rest of the family, which makes them feel alone. However, experts have said the diabetic patient could eat same meal with the family, they said the ideal thing is every one is meant  to eat healthy not forgetting to add more of vegetables, fruits, whole grains and lean protein foods.

4 Another common myth says the diabetic  should not take sodium diets and salt; the dietician said diabetic patients could could consume sodium diet but in small quantity as much intake of it, including salt could lead to high blood pressure, which in turn leads to heart disease as diabetic patients are at high risk of such disease.

5 one other faulty belief is that people with diabetes could consumed as much fats as possible as it does not raise their blood glucose level; but again, nutritionists have warned that too much fats intake could slow down digestion and resist the effects of insulin, leading to high blood glucose level, while much fats in the body has been recorded to increase risk of heart attack or stroke.
