The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed shock at the death of the former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Ghali Umar N’Abba, describing the sad event as another huge national loss.
Hon. N’Abba, the PDP said, was a courageous and visionary politician, forthright legislator, cultured democrat and resourceful grassroot politician who believed in and fought for the democratic tenets of separation of powers and independence of the legislature; freedom of citizens, equity, social justice and played key roles in ensuring the stability and growth of our nation.
The party said this in a statement yesterday by its National Publicity Secretary, Hon Debo Ologunagba.
The PDP recalled how Hon. N’Abba as Speaker led other democrats in the House of Representatives to chart the framework for the rebuilding of the legislative arm after a long Military Rule.
According to the leading opposition party, “Despite the challenges, he was resolute in entrenching democratic practice and insisted on strict adherence to Rule of Law and transparency in governance with effective legislative oversight of government Ministries, Department and Agencies (MDAs).
“Rt. Hon. N’Abba remained committed to the nation especially in playing pivotal roles towards the deepening of democracy and salvaging the country from the stranglehold of oppressive forces.
“The PDP commiserates with the N’Abba family the National Assembly and the Government and people of Kano State. “Our Party prays to the Almighty Allah to console the family and grant his soul Al-jannah Fiddausi “, it said.
