The National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has empowered at least 2, 000 staff of the agency with the opportunity to earn additional income through agriculture while still in active service.
Speaking at a launch which was jointly organised by NAFDAC and Project Fix Nigeria, the Director-General of the agency, Dr. Paul Orhii, said the project was aimed at providing his workers the opportunity to create wealth from the office.
“Apart from wealth for themselves, they are creating jobs, food security and cueing into the agricultural transformation agenda of the President,” he said.
Dr. Orhii also noted that the project will ensure production of quality food items which will be processed and sold within and outside the country at affordable prices.
According to him, “the staff members can utilize the project as an avenue to prepare for retirement while those who are young can monitor and start yielding profits before and after retirement.”
“Using the cooperative society system, staff members are expected to contribute a certain percentage of their monthly income which will be put to work on their behalf while they are active in office,” he added.
