The Nigeria Association of Nurse Anesthetists (NANA) has reiterated its dedication to promoting safe surgery and patient safety across Nigeria.
This commitment was reaffirmed during the 2025 National Scientific Conference and Annual General Meeting in Kaduna, themed “Ensuring Quality Control and Assurance in Anesthesia for the Best of Practice.”
The conference was graced by notable figures, including Dr. Dorothy Ore, representing the Registrar of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN), and Comrade (NR) Haruna Mamman, National President of the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM).
– Nurse anesthetists have been the backbone of surgical and critical care in Nigeria for decades, providing safe and effective anesthesia care in high-volume teaching hospitals across the country.
Despite facing challenges such as patient overflow, workforce migration, and brain drain, nurse anesthetists continue to ensure quality care nationwide.
NANA leaders urged the Nigerian government to strengthen investment and
Enhance education and training programs for nurse anesthetists.
– *Simulation Training*: Provide simulation training facilities to improve practical skills.
Upgrade infrastructure to meet World Health Organization (WHO) and International Federation of Nurse Anesthetists (IFNA) standards.
By investing in these areas, NANA believes that safe surgery and patient safety can be significantly improved, ultimately saving lives.
