The Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Nasarawa State has thrown its weight behind former Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Abubakar-Adamu, expressing confidence that he will emerge victorious in the 2027 governorship election.
Party leaders made the declaration during a solidarity visit to the member representing Keana Constituency in the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Mohammed Adamu-Omadefu, in Lafia.
The delegation was led by the SDP’s Nasarawa South Zonal Chairman, Abdullahi Ari, alongside state party officials, the Keana Local Government chairman, and 10 ward chairpersons from the area.
Ari said the party had continued to expand it grassroots presence across the state, insisting that the growing support base positioned the SDP to challenge for power in the next general election.
He described Abubakar-Adamu as a candidate with widespread acceptance, expressing optimism that the former police chief would secure the governorship seat in 2027.
The zonal chairman also endorsed Adamu-Omadefu for a third term in the State Assembly, citing his contributions to the development of Keana Local Government Area.
According to Ari, the visit was aimed at reaffirming the party’s support for the lawmaker and discussing strategies to strengthen the SDP ahead of the elections.
He urged party members to remain united and prioritise teamwork to enhance the party’s chances at the polls.
Responding, Adamu-Omadefu appreciated the party leadership for the visit and pledged to continue working with members to strengthen the SDP in Nasarawa.
The lawmaker said he joined the party to contribute to its growth and expressed confidence that both the SDP and its governorship candidate would record victory in 2027.
He further called on party leaders and stakeholders to intensify grassroots mobilization and sensitization efforts to boost support across the state.
Also speaking, Keana Local Government SDP Chairman, Ibrahim Ogiri, assured the lawmaker of the commitment of party executives in the area to work for the success of the party and its candidates in the 2027 elections.
