Gov. Umaru Al-Makura of Nasarawa state has said, in Lafia, that the state government had concluded arrangements to build medical stores in all the local government areas of the state, as part of measures to ease access to affordable quality drugs at the grassroots.
He made the disclosure while inaugurating a central medical store for the supply of quality and affordable drugs to all Primary Health Centres in the state.
Al-Makura said the construction of the stores was to facilitate the state’s Drug Revolving Fund Scheme, in partnership with the Millennium Development Office (MDGs) office in the state.
He said the store would ensure that the people of the state accessed quality and affordable essential drugs.
In his remarks, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on MDGs, Salisu Rajj, said a total of 39 Primary Health Care facilities across the 13 local government areas in the state were already benefiting from the pilot drug revolving scheme.
Rajj said that the state government had spent N49 million on the scheme to ensure that the people accessed quality drugs in all parts of the state.
He expressed optimism that the provision of sustainable drugs to PHCs would tremendously assist in reducing the hardships faced by patients, care givers and health workers in providing effective health care services in the state. (NAN)
