National Taskforce on the Prohibition of illegal Importation of Arms,Ammunition,Light Weapons,Chemical Weapons and Pine line Vandalism (Natforce)during the weekend elected His Royal Highness, Dr Baba Muhammed as its new Director General while late DG’, Chief Okereke’s wife, Barr. Mrs Lora Okereke emerged the Deputy Director General.
In a keenly neck to neck contested election, Baba Muhammed who was earlier nominated by the Akwa Ibom State Director, against Evangelist Martina Farinde who nominated her self for the election.
The election which was conducted in a transparent atmosphere and general glare of all in attendance saw Baba Muhammed through with 25 votes while Evangelist Martina Farinde had 3 votes cast.
The National Executive Council(NEC) of the Association had decided to conduct the election following the demise of the Pioneer Director General, Chief Osita Okereke as they insisted that there should be no vacuum.
In another development, the NEC had unanimously agreed to appoint the widow of late DG, Barr Mrs Lora Okereke as the Deputy Director General while the eldest son, Mr Obinna Okereke shall in due cause be given a position at national level.
The event also witness a formal pronouncement by the family that late Chief Osita Okereke was death and was done on behalf of the family by the eldest son Obinna Okereke though with a very deep emotion and tears.
Mean while the NEC had also used the opportunity to disband the so-call DG Special Squard through out the country charging members and security agencies to arrest and prosecute any person claiming to operate under such illegal body or group.
They also agreed to use all legal meas available at their disposal to retrieve documents, assets as well as liability of Natforce from the said unrepentant and splinter group as soon as possible.
In a interview with newsmen shortly after the election, the new Director General Alh Dr Baba Muhammed promised to work assiduously with all relevant security agencies in the country in order to move Natforce to it destination.
He also used the opportunity to plead with the members of the National Assembly and indeed the Executive Arms of government to expedite action on Natforce Bill which has scaled through 2nd reading in the floor of the senate promising to use his contact gained over years as a dynamic season administrator to push Natforce higher for the benefit of Nigeria and Nigerians.
