National Institute Alumni Donates Cholera Drugs to Borno
The Borno/Yobe Chapter of the Alumni Association of the National Institute (AANI), has donated essential drugs and medical consumables to support response to cholera outbreak in Borno State.
The drugs and consumables were handed over to the Ministry of Health on Monday in Maiduguri by the chairman of the chapter, Barrister Mallam Fannami, represented by Dr. Bulama Mali Gubio,
He said that the donation was part of the Association’s humanitarian intervention and commitment to improving public health .
Gubio said that the gesture was also aimed at strengthening the government’s efforts to contain the disease and provide quality healthcare to affected victims.
He said the Association comprises distinguished graduates of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, who have continued to contribute significantly to national development through selfless service, policy advocacy, and humanitarian interventions.
According to him, the Association is deeply concerned about the recent cholera outbreak in Borno State and decided to complement the efforts of the government, development partners, and frontline health workers who have been working tirelessly to contain the spread of the disease.
“We cannot fold our arms and watch our people suffer when we have the capacity, however little, to contribute to saving lives.
“This donation reflects our commitment to humanitarian service and our collective responsibility towards building a healthier and better society,” he said.
Gubio commended Governor Babagana Umara Zulum for his unwavering commitment to strengthening the health sector through improved healthcare infrastructure, prompt emergency response, and sustained investment in public health.
He also applauded the dedication, sacrifice, and professionalism of the management and staff of the Ministry of Health, as well as healthcare workers across the state, for their relentless efforts in curbing the spread of disease.
He assured that the Association would continue to support humanitarian causes and initiatives aimed at improving the lives of vulnerable members of society.
The items donated included 2,000 pieces of 500ml Ringer’s Lactate Infusion, 2,000 Infusion Sets, 1,000 Intravenous Cannulas,
100 packs of Ciprofloxacin, and 100 packs of Azithromycin
Receiving the donation on behalf of the Borno State Government, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Dr. Shettima Maina, expressed appreciation to the Association for its timely and thoughtful intervention.
He described the donation as a demonstration of patriotism, compassion, and partnership in advancing public health, noting that the items would significantly enhance the state’s response to the cholera outbreak.
Dr. Maina assured the Association that the drugs and medical consumables would be judiciously utilized for the purpose for which they were donated.
He called on other professional associations, corporate organizations, philanthropists, and well-meaning individuals to emulate the gesture by supporting government efforts to improve healthcare delivery and safeguard the lives of citizens.
