NBS: Kerosene price rose to N1,439 in April — highest in north-central

The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) says the average retail price of a litre of kerosene rose to N1,439.64 in April.
In its diesel price report for April released on May 22, NBS said the price of kerosene increased by 6.29 percent on a month-on-month basis compared to N1,354.40 recorded in March.
“On a year-on-year basis, the average retail price per litre of the product rose by 24.04% from N1,160.67 in April 2023,” NBS said.
The bureau said in state profile analysis, the highest price of kerosene in the review period was recorded in Benue at N1,788.47 per litre, followed by Kaduna at N1,761.62 per litre and Plateau at N1,717.78 per litre.
According to the report, the lowest price was recorded in Katsina at N1,222.22 per litre, followed by Jigawa at N1,240.74 per litre and Kwara at N1,252.38 per litre.
NBS said analysis by zone showed the north-central had the highest average retail price of N1,525.27 per litre, followed by the south-west at N1,479.24 per litre, while the south-east recorded the lowest price at N1,391.68 per litre.
The bureau said the average retail price of a gallon of kerosene also rose to N5,174.23 in April, indicating a month-on-month increase of 5.61 percent from N4,899.33 in March.
“On a year-on-year basis, this increased by 24.17% from N4,166.94 in April 2023,” the bureau said.
In state profile analysis, NBS said Kano recorded the highest average retail price per gallon at N6,862.50, followed by Adamawa at N6,266.05 per gallon and Yobe at N6,120.41 per gallon.
The bureau said Kwara recorded the lowest price at N4,226.40 per gallon, followed by Delta and Akwa Ibom at N4,300.00 and N4,356.67, respectively.
Regional analysis, according to NBS, showed that the north-east recorded the highest average retail price per gallon at N5,922.63, followed by the north-west at N5,538.58, while the north-central recorded the lowest at N4,634.60.
