A chieftain of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Mayor Paul Yerima has declared that the party is well positioned to clinch the National Assembly seats in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Yerima who is also contesting for the Abuja South House of Representatives seat told newsmen in Abuja that residents of the FCT are already rooting for the NDC, despite the fact that it’s only about three months old.
According to him, the residents of the FCT are already tired of the economic hardship they are facing under the All Progressives Congress (APC) and are only waiting for the election to vote for a government that will be sympathetic to the plight of the common man.
“Despite the fact that the NDC is barely three months old, you can see the number and quality of people that are already joining the party. This is a clear testament that the people of Nigeria, including the residents of the FCT are at home with the party. We are very confident of winning this election, not just in the FCT but across the country because everybody is feeling the pangs of the hardship introduced by the APC administration”.
On what he would do differently, the aspirant who also said he’s upbeat of clinching the sole ticket said he will use the window of constituency projects to develop the rural areas in his federal constituency.
“If elected, I will use the opportunity to show that one can be prudent in government. Using the constituency projects, I will touch lives in the rural communities, with the provision of quality road infrastructure, electricity and water. These things are not rocket science, it only takes the dedication of a leader who has the interest of his people in mind to achieve, and that is what we are going to do “.
Yerima equally expressed confidence in the process adopted by the party in selecting their candidates, especially the idea of only giving out the expression of interest forms to aspirants before screening them.
“The party is not corrupt and they are not really interested in grabbing money off the aspirants. You can only but applaud the party because what they give you first is the expression of interest forms and when you scale the screening exercise, then they will sell the nomination forms to you. That is laudable because if you don’t meet up, you have not lost your money in purchasing nomination forms”.
He also expressed his confidence in clinching the ticket because according to him, his opponent is a former member of the APC who tried but was not able to secure the confidence of the party in giving him the ticket.
