Former Kaduna Central senator, Shehu Sani has welcomed the recent shake-up in Nigeria’s military leadership, describing it as a necessary step in the country’s fight against insecurity.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has dismissed Chief of Defense Staff General Christopher Musa, along with several other service chiefs, appointing General Olufemi Oluyede, who was previously the Chief of Army Staff, as his replacement.
The new appointments include Major-General W. Shaibu as the new Chief of Army Staff, Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke as the new Chief of Air Staff, and Rear Admiral I. Abbas as the new Chief of Naval Staff. However, Major-General E.A.P. Undiendeye has retained his position as Chief of Defense Intelligence.
In response to the changes, Shehu Sani noted that periodic alterations in the leadership structure of security services are essential for achieving positive results.
He attributed the country’s ongoing struggles with insecurity to past leaders’ lack of courage in making necessary changes within military leadership. Sani also commended General Musa for his service and wished him well in his future endeavors.
Sani emphasized that these changes are crucial in Nigeria’s battle against insecurity, saying “periodic changes in the leadership structure of our security services are essential to achieve results.
“The previous lack of courage to execute such changes is partly responsible for the failures in our nation’s fight against insecurity”.
