A Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), Guardians of the Nation International, in partnership with the OXFAM NOVIB, an Abuja based organization, have launched an empowerment initiative known as ‘Young Women Leadership Programme (YWLP)’.

Speaking to newsmen during the launching, at the University of Abuja mini Campus, last weekend, the team leader, in charge of the events planning and logistics, Nonye Odiri, said that the programme was aimed at building the leadership competency in young women in Nigeria.

She said the programme was charged with the responsibility of empowering the young women, so as to become productive in the society.

She noted that about 200 young girls of the University of Abuja were engaged in the programme in order to be trained as good leaders at various levels of human endeavours in the society.

Odiri, however, said the leadership of the organization would sensitize the young women across the country to benefits from the programme.

On her part, the founder of Bloggers Network, Jenny Chesom, said that the programme would aid young women to stand up and speak for themselves in the society.

Chesom used the occasion to advise Nigerian students to focus on the practical aspects of their studies in the universities to avoid searching for jobs in the labour market after their graduation.

She therefore urged parents to always be role models to their children, so as to deter them from the societal vices.
