Niger gets 1st Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery

Following confirmation of promotion by the 15th Governing Council of Bayero University Kano, Dr. Mohammed Kabir Abubakar, who is an indigene of Niger state, has become the first Professor of Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgery to be produced by the University and Niger state.

 

It was gathered that gathered that Prof. Abubakar, has rose through the ranks to get to this exalted position.

 

Untill now, he was a former Head of Department of Surgery Bayero University and Aminu Kano Teaching hospital Kano. The accomplished Orthopaedic and Spine Surgeon had professional training both within and outside the country.

He was with Mount Sinai University, New York, and has served as Head of Trauma at the John F Kennedy Memorial Hospital, Monrovia Liberia. He was a Visiting Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with IBB Specialized Hospital Minna Niger state.

 

He is a fellow of the West African College of Surgeon, and also has fellowship of Nigerian Institute for Health Care Providers and Institute of Management consultants of Nigeria.

 

 

The academician has published several peer reviewed papers in both local and international journal. He has served in several universities and teaching hospital capacities and committees.

 

 

Dr M.K, as he is fondly called, had his early education in Zarumai Primary School and Government Secondary School Minna, Niger.

He was a medical graduate of University of Maiduguri. He also has a Masters Degree in Disaster Risk management from Ahmadu Bello University and a Masters in Business Administration (Health Services) from Bayero University.

 

His hobbies include entrepreneurship, farming, advocacy for injury prevention, information technology and machine learning.
